A MOVIE POSTER

THE GHOUL PATROL
The movie revolves around four main stereotypical high school students. The unlikely-hood for them to team up for the survival of man kind as sticking to the status quo was ideal. Here is a synopsis of the movie:

On one sunny afternoon, a replacement teacher took up the role as a chaperon to accompany Mr Toms’s students on a fieldtrip to the fun fair as he was strangely unable to present that day. As usual, the class was not as one but broken up into different groups walking scattered all over the place. There were the jocks, the brainy, the La-la girls ,the bleaches and so on. However, everyone shared one common interest that day…it was to have fun at the carnival rather than sitting in a boring class.

However , things didn’t quite go as planned for everyone… or should I say went terribly wrong. We all know the world has been messed up quite badly nowadays with global warming , extinctions of species, sighting of “Aliens” and so on. This time , it worse than that as line between fiction and reality has been mixed up.

“The End of Mankind” predictions just came true without any warning!!!

It was a scene of total chaos as the Carnival’s Clowns whom do witchcrafts were turning people into the walking dead all around.

By some chance luck, the junky boy, the plastic fantastic girl, the brainy science freak girl and the replacement managed to survive the first wave of the clowns and were the only survivors in London.(They found out soon enough). They decided to team up to fight evil and survive as they had nothing to lose.

As the movie progresses , the team realises that someone “ a person” was the mastermind for this catastrophe. Someone created these clowns to take over the world starting from London.

However , as time passes by , there was a suspicion going around in the team. Someone in the team seems like the ultimate villain or traitor….. WHOM MIGHT THAT BE…..

THEME and ELEMENTS
The Ghoul Patrol poster is inspired by the theme of the LEFT FOR DEAD video game.

The genre of this movie is horror/comedy.

The setting of this film is in the 20th century ,at the fun fair in London , Great
Britain.

The font used is a 60’s cowboy era to match the quirky atmosphere in a carnival as well as to compliment the comedy genre of the movie. The fonts are all emphasised by tinges of red to make them bold.

Minimalism in colour theme is used here. The mostly greyscale of the poster gives an old school touch for the high school students as if signifying the possibility of the movie’s heroes are all history/gone. It also brings the gloominess and haunting atmosphere that we as audience will experience watching the movie. The red splashes gives the overall poster a punch of excitement and violence.

CHARACTERS  ROLE in the Presentation of the Poster

Take away the all the characters from the poster and you will have an absolutely a feeling of emptiness, dark, deserted and gloomy ambience. By adding the characters not only introduce the lead heroes in the movie but also adds comedy and familiarity for the audience to relate to . As all four characters are portrayed differently according to their personalities. THE CHARACTERS BRING THE MOVIE AND POSTER TO LIFE.

 Behind The Scenes

Did our photoshoot with people staring amusingly at us
as they walked past. People were entertained as we posed for the camera. It was a hilarious experience.

The Symmetrical and Asymmetrical Expanded Squares

The Asymmetrical Expanded Square(Organic)

TURMOIL

The story

TURMOIL
Our emotions are always contradicting when we are in a turmoil as represented
by the two swirls going against each other. In times of dilemma , we tend to lose
logic. We also don’t know whether positive energy or negative is taking over us
as the black and blue waves coming in and out. The circles represents the way of
life. The circles are incomplete or having the negative and positive effect shows
that it’s a part of us to feel these emotions as human beings. From bottom left,
the wild waves coming in shows the devastating times we face and flows out ( to
the top right) becoming thin strands of wavy lines tell us that we have to go
through emotions and reflections to finally free the burdens.

The Principle Of Design
                                                                                    The Waves
It asymmetrical as it has different elements from all corners . However , the objects at each corner are reflected outside the squares. This creates a negative and positive space , making the expanded square more ‘ dynamic flow’ as the objects are organic in this whole work. For rhythm , I repetitively have many strokes of waves . For example the repeat of lines of waves for the top right gives us a feeling of motion towards or out of the square. I created a unity element as I want everything to comprehend with each other as well as the theme of this expanded square. Because the emotion “turmoil” is a confusing and depressing feeling thus I put a consistent colour scheme to suite the mood which is blue. Besides that, I use waves all over the work as to create an atmosphere even though the waves are not all the same pattern. Speaking of variety of waves , this lead me to have variety in this piece as to give it a more dynamic and interesting twist to appeal to the audiences as well as giving it a more meatier content. “ The negative waves at the bottom right diagonal to the positive waves and the close edge waves at the top right diagonal to the bottom left big gap waves” gives the balance. The focal point or dominant is the two swirl as everything and factors circulates the representative of the theme “turmoil” (the swirls).

The Symmetrical Expanded Square( Geometrical)

Urban Jungle

The story

  URBAN JUNGLE
Basically the city is portrayed as a hectic and competitive place where we all are in . This is shown by the dense skyscrapers . The joining of squares and rectangle shows the order and how stereotype we have to be in work life. The sharp pointy triangles on the rectangles represents how corrupt and dangerous it can be in an urban jungle.(Competitions, backstabbing and greed). The sky has triangles and irregular shaped objects. This signifies that we are to stress up to have a moment to reflect and look up the sky .Even if we do , we don’t see clouds and birds but troubles and hardship(triangles and irregular shapes)The chain of diamond shapes at the bottom represents us, working continuously like a robot for diamond treasures( in this case , Money) .This finally leads us to resemble a robot. However, the diamond shape in the center of the robot shows that it has a heart. There is a positive and negative space.(left side and right side).A reflection. This shows that we are to choose our path in life. Yes, working life is tough but you can be optimistic about it as represented in the reflection on the right or just sulking about work(left). The message is take a positive spin on things and it will change your life into something more meaningful.

The principle Of Design
      Geometrical Pieces
It is symmetrical , the line is the middle of the robot. The repetition of the diamond shape below gives a sense of movement . It also felt strict and in order movement because the shape is pretty constant. The repetition of the variety of squares and rectangle going downwards and the proximity which is all of them adjoining to one another gives a feel of solidness and heaviness going downwards in motion.I created unity by having all the objects made up of geometrical shapes. This geometrical shaped theme gives the same strict and no liberty atmosphere as in work life (urban jungle) .The consistent colour scheme of black and orange(the positive and negative space) gives a balance and contrasts of the two side story. The expanded squares has more depth in story and dense city popular feeling as a different types of geometrical objects are placed in it.This also creates variety in the work. The scale and proportion of the objects are also take in calculations. The bigger the size of the objects, the heavier and more dominant feel to it. For example, the robot is the biggest in scale. This is to emphasized the main character of the whole work. The big adjoining rectangles and squares also makes the object feels a tough and a burden .The focal point of this expanded square is the human robot as to show that starting with yourself conscience, you choose bright path to the right or an angry attitude to the left.
